Space Lab Technologies, LLC Instrumentation Engineer IV For Lunar Surface Payload in Boulder, Colorado

Space Lab is currently looking for an Instrumentation Engineer Level IV to support research and development of advanced technology for human space exploration and space science. This position specifically involves development of the Lunar Effects on Agricultural Flora Beta (LEAF ß) payload for operations on the Lunar surface, which is crew deployed during the NASA Artemis III mission (may be manifested on a later mission). This position reports to the LEAF ß Principal Engineer. The expected start date for this position is June 3, 2024.

Responsibilities: The Instrumentation Engineer IV leads the development of the instrumentation suite for LEAF ß, which includes the 1) Lunar Environment Monitoring (LEM) System, 2) Plant Health Imaging (PHI) System, and 3) Plant Habitat System (PHS). To develop these systems, the instrumentation engineer works closely with the electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineers. In addition, the instrumentation engineer develops the associated electronics for these instruments, which include both digital and analog design (see below). The instrumentation engineer supports the performance analyses led by the system engineers. The instrumentation engineer supports development of procedures, such as assembly, bench power test, integration, acceptance testing, mate/de-mate of interfaces, etc.

Overall Responsibilities: -Electrical Engineering -Low noise analog design -Radiation tolerant and hardened electronic design -Space environment sensing development -FPGA design and development -FPGA timing analyses -Multi-gigabit data transfer design -Digital signal processing (DSP) techniques -Signal integrity analysis -Low noise board layout -Electronics interface to heat rejection components (e.g. heat pipes, heat sinks, etc.) -Spaceflight wire harness design and development -Hands-on prototype development to include the use of soldering/desoldering stations, surface mount components, crimp tools, lacing cord, etc. -Space flight hardware development (qualification through established flight) -Worst case analyses (WCA) -Risk assessments -Sub-system or project leadership -Technical writing to include proposals for grants, conference papers, and journal articles -Technical presentations to customers and the public

Qualifications: This position requires extensive knowledge of spacecraft electronic design to be applied to both unmanned and human rated systems, especially with the use of robust radiation hardened components. Proper practices of ESD labs are required. Software programming experience is a plus. MATLAB, Verilog, and VHDL experience is required. OrCAD Capture and PCB Editor experience is required. Familiarity of SolidWorks and COMSOL is desired. U.S.A. citizenship is required. This position does require travel for conferences, customer presentations, payload integration/testing, and rocket launches of approximately 6 times per year. The position is a full-time position, where the duties require minimal supervision. This position may require overtime work depending on project needs.

Education and Experience Requirements: M.S. in Electrical Engineering and at least 7 years of related experience or a B.S. and at least 10 years of related experience

Salary: $130,000.00 to $170,000.00 /year
