Product Engineer/Technical Antenna

Essential Functions:

The Technical Antenna is responsible for supporting new product development and sustaining of current products for the Columbia Missouri plant. Applies technical expertise to define, analyze, validate, and document the manufacturing operating environment, state of technology and current engineering processes. Will lead and/or assist in the investigation and resolution of performance issues with industrial molded case circuit breakers.

What is circuit breaker?

Circuit breakers perform 3 key functions: protection, switching, and monitoring. Circuit breakers are designed to "break" (discontinue) the flow of electricity to protect people and equipment when current reaches an unsafe level due to overload, short circuit, or other electrical faults. Columbia Missouri manufactures a broadest array of circuit breakers in the industry, including Square D circuit breakers for superior circuit protection, the legendary Power Pact circuit breaker (MCCB), and high current MasterPact air circuit breakers (ACB).

1. Contribute to Optimize (Product Evolution Process - PEP*)

• Is the Optimize process owner in the plant
• Leads or contributes to the execution of Change Notices based on agreed timeline
• Analyzes change impact on the end to end manufacturing processes
• Proposes improvements to the Board of Change
• Collect and send Adaptation, Quality, Productivity, Obsolescence and Withdrawal requests
• Collaborates with Design/Continuous Engineering for all changes

1. Ensure the local Product-Process knowledge, contribute to technical problem solving

• Train the actors in the plant on Product and Customer Application knowledge
• Perform Product/Process analysis (surveillance test, Technical Returns i.e. TEX, defective products i.e. FPY, MDR, Red Box)
• Contribute to Problem Solving (Root Cause Analysis in 8Ds)
• Contribute to the Product reviews conducted with the Line of Business
• Interacts with customers to assist with technical questions and improve customer delivery experience.

1. Guarantee Product Performance Compliance and contribute to Product Robustness in the plant

• Ensure the Product definition consistency of the manufacturing database
• Contribute to risk assessment (i.e. Severity in RPN) through PFMEAs, PQCS and CQCP*
• Contribute to Critical Supply Robustness and Part Qualification, CQCS* and CQCP*
• Take receipt of new offer arriving in the plant coming from Offer Creation (PMP*) and Industrial transfer.
• Supports Short Interval Management serving as a key team member, demonstrating leadership, responsiveness, excellent communication skills, and ability to team with others solving issues and implementing improvement.
• Interfaces heavily with Quality Engineers, manufacturing hourly and salaried support personnel, and external corporate engineering.
• Analyzes change impact on the end-to-end manufacturing processes.

This job might be for you if:

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering
• Experience within manufacturing Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
• Experience with 8D problem solving methodology, tool utilization (i.e. 5Why, fishbone (cause and effect), etc.) and Six Sigma knowledge certification highly desired
• Demonstrated analytical skills with data, problem resolution, project management.
• Excellent skills in leadership, communication both verbal and written, and attention to detail.
• Strong desire to work with people, on the manufacturing floor and with customer interface, excellent follow-up and execution skills.
• Candidate should be a quick learner able to ap ly themselves across multiple roles both internal to Missouri and supporting corporate initiatives related to customer satisfaction and quality.
