Eaton Corporation Custom Order Engineer in Columbia, South Carolina

Eaton’s ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Custom Order Engineer. This role will take place out of one of the following locations: Sumter, SC, Columbia, SC, or Charlotte, NC.

This person will perform basic engineering of customer orders including detailed review of layout and application of equipment, wiring and component selection, reconcile pricing and delivery requests, and perform various phases of order management from reconciliation through engineering and manufacturing information drawing generation.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $65250.0 - $95700.0 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you’ll do:

  • Manages incoming customer orders including detailed review of layout and application of equipment, wiring and schematic development, component selection, and verification of applicable codes and standards.

  • Reconciles pricing and lead time requests of incoming orders, using information supplied through proprietary pricing and configuration tool, order entry and invoicing system and other communications from field sales and/or channel partners. Verifies that the plant's manufacturing capabilities can support lead-time requests.

  • Verifies that complete and accurate order entry information has been received from field sales and/or channel partners on incoming panelboard orders. Responsible for communicating to and following up through appropriate channels on any discrepancies and facilitating efficient downstream order processing.

  • Prepares Manufacturing Information (MI) for panelboard configurations, utilizing proprietary pricing and configuration tool, AutoCAD, and Plant Order Manager as required.

  • Supports field sales and channel partners on post order entry issues. Examples include change notice pricing, delivery quotations, Sales Engineer technical application assistance, and providing value-engineering solutions.

  • Provides input to the price and bill-of-material configuration tool development team on design and pick table enhancements that help minimize front-end cycle time as well as improves quality and accuracy.

  • Provides input to R&D department on new product application needs and designs as well as design refinements.

  • Interface with customers, channel partners, field sales, and order management functional team through participation in plant visits, training support and customer events.

  • Exhibit a strong adherence to quality by continually seeking methods of improvement for all functions of the position. Ensure that all products and parts adequately meet Eaton’s quality guidelines as they move throughout the production process. Perform quality checks as instructed.

  • Receive and perform work assignments from management and internal customers to fulfill customer orders in a timely manner. Closely follow established procedures for completing assigned function and perform special assignments and/or projects as assigned.

  • Comply with all safety and industrial hygiene requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment and operation of equipment in a safe and competent manner. Understand and meet all departmental safety objectives and goals.

  • Keep assigned work-area clean and organized per 5S standards.

  • Work with members of a team to effectively complete work assignment. Receive information from team members regarding customer needs and product requirements and utilize this information to perform one’s function.

  • Exhibit strong analytical and critical thinking skills to resolve any obstacles or delays that may occur in the production process.

  • Perform Lean Initiatives by recommending suggestions for improvement related to quality, work processes, and environmental safety and health.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.

  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position. Only candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of Sumter, SC, Columbia, SC, or Charlotte, NC will be considered for this position. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with order entry and invoicing systems, pricing and configuration tools and/or electronic file storage systems

  • Experience with AutoCAD

  • Experience with PLC Programming

  • Experience with MRP/ERP Systems

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Products (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrated technical and application knowledge of panelboards

  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal & written communications, organizational & computer skills

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, persuasive skills, and analytical problem-solving skills. Work with individuals and groups to effectively participate within team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Physical Demands:

The employee is frequently required to walk; stoop; lift; carry; push; pull; and grip. The vision requirements include far and close vision with depth perception and color discrimination. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to listen and to talk.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is primarily based in an office environment.
