Technical Training Specialist - Erie, PA
Who will you be working with?
The Technical Training Specialist is a member of Wabtec’s Freight Global Services Product Training Team, which delivers basic and advanced technical training to Wabtec employees and customers on our locomotive, marine, and stationary products. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Learning and Development, (Senior Instructor) for WFGS.

The technical training team responsible for managing and delivering these courses is comprised of product experts with a passion for teaching others.
Whether delivering a Level 1 certification course to new Technical Advisors, teaching an advanced Level 2 course to experienced technicians, or traveling across the globe to deliver instruction directly to customers, our Technical Training Specialists embody our core value of Expanding the Possible.
What do we want to know about you?
Undergraduate degree in a technical discipline
OR a High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 4 additional years of experience in design, repair, or troubleshooting of mechanical and/or electrical systems
An additional minimum of 3 years of technical field services or other applicable hands-on experience – preferably on GE/Wabtec products
Current level 2 certification is strongly preferred, but not required
Familiarity and experience with the development and/or delivery of virtual and/or augmented reality training environments
Ability and willingness to complete Wabtec Locomotive Technical Level 1 Certification within 18 months of hire and Wabtec Locomotive Technical Level 2 Certification within 18 months after Level 1 certification.
Satisfactory performance of an in-person teaching demonstration to the Global Product Training Leader, Senior Instructor, and instructor staff.
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 75% of the time, and possible extraordinary hours, as required.
The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance
A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
Desired (but not required) experience and characteristics:
Technical Advisor experience/Wabtec Locomotive Level 1 Certification (Wabtec Employees only)
Experience with all models of Wabtec Locomotives and engine platforms
Firsthand knowledge of Wabtec Freight Global Services Maintenance practices and processes
Curriculum development and instructional delivery experience in a technical training adult learning setting. This includes traditional classroom, distance learning / remote, and hands-on training in a lab or live environment.
Ability to develop blended learning solutions incorporating/combining on-line training, virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence with traditional instructor led training.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to include written / oral communication and presentation skills.
Strong Project Leadership and organization skills
Proficient with MS Word / Excel / PowerPoint and internet usage
What will your typical day look like?
Develop, maintain, and deliver instructor led curriculum conforming to the training organization’s standards to designated customers.
Methods of instructor led delivery will be comprised of traditional classroom, live-virtual instruction, and hands-on practical exercises.
Serve as a leader of students and safety role model / evaluator for all training events.
Provide instruction to include familiarization, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of applicable Wabtec Products and Services to include locomotives, marine, stationary, and other products.
Promote/support/advance Wabtec’s technical certification programs through direct participation and leadership, including:
Self-completion (when necessary), coaching participants, serving as a board member, and providing thoughtful remediation when necessary.
Support in the following areas as assigned: class advisor, course supervisor, subject matter expert, training asset coordinator, or other TBD.
Perform classroom preparation duties and be familiar with classroom layout.
Demonstrate and/or implement:
Adult learning principles and strategies.
Instructional systems design process.
Basic course/curriculum evaluation.
Classroom management and facilitation skills.
Correct methods and practices for conducting “hands-on” exercises
Familiarity with equipment/technology/ functional components, mock-ups, and cutaways.
Perform assessment of student learning skills and skills in the delivery of adequate feedback
Perform administrative and record-keeping duties.

Physical Demands
Exposure to shop and outdoors environments while wearing applicable PPE.
Must be able to walk on uneven terrain, climb vertical steps, crouch, bend, and lift up to 30lbs on occasion.
Standing for long periods of time
Walking throughout the day and up/down stairs
Climbing on/off of locomotives
Wearing all required personal protective gear (hardhat, steel toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) throughout the day when required
Speaking and hearing for extended periods
Typing and operating a computer
Extensive domestic and international travel – to include meeting all health-related precautions and requirements prior to travel
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
