Cogent is currently looking for a bright, self-driven individual to join our team in either our Kansas City or St. Louis branch as a Safety Coordinator. This position will play an integral part in Cogent’s positive safety culture and requires a safety-conscious, self-motivated individual who possesses strong communication and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help implement health and safety plans, programs, and initiatives.

  • Review existing policies and procedures and update according to industry and legislation changes.

  • Initiate, organize, and report on OHS training of employees.

  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures.

  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.

  • Prepare and submit reports to government regulatory agencies.

  • Participate in company safety committees.

  • Manage Department of Transportation platforms, training, and systems.

  • Support managers and front-line employees with safety platform issues as they happen.

  • Manage and maintain compliance with safety compliance platforms, including the submission of all necessary documentation, ensuring up-to-date certifications, and actively monitoring compliance status.

  • Respond to and complete customer safety questionnaires, ensuring accurate representation of our company's safety policies, practices, and records to maintain and enhance business opportunities.

PositionSafety Coordinator

Position Requirements

Qualified candidates should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety relevant field or equivalent experience.

  • Proven experience as a safety coordinator or similar role.

  • In-depth knowledge of legislation (e.g., OSHA/DOT) and procedures.

  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.

  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.

  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.

  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.

  • Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., NASP, NEBOSH, or OSHA) is preferred.

Other items of importance:

  • This position will require some travel (20%)
