The pay range is $69,000.00 - $124,200.00

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure vendors and factories produce safe and quality product for Target owned brands

  • Deep knowledge of consumer product manufacturing quality oversight, compliance, & regulatory requirements

  • Responsible for proactive and preventive quality assurance and control, delivering end to end result through QMS activities

  • Engage with factories in-person and remotely to assess performance and provide support to drive for continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

  • Actively influence decision-making and address business needs through active engagement with internal business partners.

  • Leverage analysis and reporting on vendors & factories performance with a feedback loop.

  • Actively influence decision-making and address business needs through active engagement with CFT/business

  • Conduct calibration activities on process and product for 3rd parties, vendors and factories

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Competency Expectation

  • Product and Technical knowledge

  • Category level product knowledge; understand the guest expectation/brand expression through product standards, specification, approved samples and testing requirement/protocols to support field operations

  • Ensure Target products are good & healthy, safe to use, guest friendly and durable & functional through product lifecycle

  • Knowledge of product and manufacturing process risk assessment and mitigation to support product development - Identify and validate key quality and capability callouts (e.g., manufacturing variability, critical to quality, manufacturability to scale) from product development stage through a robust MCP

  • Deep understanding of capacity analysis – to ensure appropriate capacities are allocated, both holistically and at a program level

  • Ability to understand diverse and ever evolving manufacturing processes

  • Understand process management - able to determine the critical processes to quality and its controls to prevent or mitigate potential issues/risks

  • Knowledge of tools from Lean/6 Sigma/TOC/SPC to assess factory's performance to support OBSD strategy

  • Technical ability to assess and resolve product and inspection issues

  • Understanding of cost engineering to support factory’s drive towards efficiency and right first time quality

  • Quality Strategy and Management

  • Understand and be able to assess the effectiveness of a factory’s preventive QMS and its sustainability, across diverse manufacturing processes

  • Drive continuous improvement of a factory’s quality management system, shifting focus from detection to prevention.

  • Plan for quality through preventive product risk mitigation, factory capability assessment and capacity validation prior to production.

  • Strategic overview of the factory’s performance in order to prioritize and identify areas of opportunity to drive elevation

  • Understand the guest expectation through voice of the guest

  • Data/Reporting and Analytical thinking

  • Ability to review data and conduct statistical analysis

  • Leverage data to identify opportunities for calibration, continuous improvement and problem-solving

  • Understand industry and share business intelligence with CFT teams when needed

  • Engage in proactive sourcing and category management from technical, quality and engineering perspective to drive robust business placement decisions

  • Extensive use of quantifiable data and KPIs in decision-making; to provide performance feedback to vendors/factories

Communication/CFT Collaboration/Training

  • Successfully navigate through tough choices and be able to articulate a strong point of view both internally and externally - to leaders, peers, team members and vendor/factories.

  • Steer decision effectiveness and efficiency; take smart risk based on facts, figures and guest insights through critical thinking

  • Engage in new vendor/factory vetting and exploration process that supports sourcing decision-making and long-range business plan

Operational Excellence and Brand Reputation

  • Adapt to change and adhere to Target strategy, direction and business goals

  • Continually focus on and demonstrate commitment to concepts of value creation through COQ/Lean/Six Sigma tools/efficiency

  • Ensure transparency and adherence to escalation process when required

  • Demonstrate the highest level of ethics; championing ethics for Target and supply chain

  • Support HQ through product investigations and activate on guest data analysis appropriately.

  • Investigate quality issues, ensure effectiveness of CAPA and validate vendor/factories are driving toward continuous improvement.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree in engineering

  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in industry

  • Technical disciplines equivalent in retail compliance/manufacturing

  • Quality management, raw material, product, and manufacturing industry experience/knowledge

  • Background in quality and technical/engineering

  • Knowledge of quality tools RCA/Fishbone/Lean/Six Sigma/Industrial Engineering Experienced in line setup

  • Good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

  • Collaborative focus and ability to work successfully across functional areas

  • Ability to drive/fly to factories 3-4 days a week with overnight travel up to 40% of the time

  • Close proximity to a major airport

  • Position requires a current and valid driver license

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Multilingual

  • Experience in retail purchasing operations or support (Sourcing, procurement, QA, development, etc.)

  • Certified Quality Engineer

  • ISO 9001 certification

  • Six Sigma or Lean certified
