Sherwin-Williams Co. Associate Chemist in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Associate Chemist position in our General Industrial division that is responsible for a variety of exciting activities related to developing new products, technologies and platforms in our high performance powder coatings. This position reports to the market specific General Industrial Powder R&D group leader. * Working closely with a mentor chemist or group leader in developing, reformulating, maintaining and enhancing products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results. * Display a basic working knowledge of the use of chemicals, raw materials, substrate preparation and use instruments commonly found in a lab environment * Responsible for inputting data, data analysis and technical documentation daily into electronic lab notebook or a database. * Functioning under substantial supervision, but may lead individual or group projects. Product development and/or enhanced with consistent in performance and quality. * Utilizing advanced technologies to develop products that demonstrate improvements and difference that consumer can perceive and will desire. * Performing basic paint making processes, meeting manufacturing specifications * Performing basic coating formulations, applications and physical/performance testing methods * Providing timely and accurate data to help resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing and new product development * Experience with polyester, hybrid, and urethane powder coating chemistries * Excellent organizational and communication skills * Application and troubleshooting of general industrial coatings BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field. Knowledge of basic math skills Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis Understanding of fundamental professional chemistry principles and practices Operating a variety of laboratory equipment PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1-3 years experience in a laboratory Creative thinking Mechanical abilities Travel Requirements: 10% PREFERRED CANDIDATE IDENTIFIED Sherwin-Williams is proud to be an Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, Inclusion and Diversity Supportive Employer.
