Compensation

Salary Range: $83,309 - $123,620 (Represented by UTLO) (Grade E - 556 hay points)

UTLO rate: $122,500

Responsibilities

During an assigned tour, manages the bus maintenance program of a New York City Transit (NYCT) or MTA Bus Depot or shop. Will be responsible for ensuring a safe facility and efficient work practices, with the goal of providing the public with safe, reliable and clean service. This involves implementing personnel schedule variations; maintaining acceptable bus availability; administering discipline and related labor relations; and performing general administrative functions.

The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising assigned Maintenance/Line Supervisors, Maintainers, and Helpers performing the following functions: maintenance, installation, testing, alteration and repair of buses and other automotive vehicles and related bus shop equipment; inspecting and performing research on new equipment; maintaining written and electronic records and preparing detailed, written reports; operating buses for testing, evaluation or instructional purposes and performing related work.

In addition, all qualified applicants may be assigned to other DOB non-depot units/functions. If assigned to Bus Technology or Business Process Reengineering team, the incumbent will be assigned to systems needs assessment and implementation functions. In Paratransit, the selected candidate will perform random audits and oversee carrier/contractor vehicles, facilities and records to ensure a safe fleet is maintained to transport riders. May be required to travel out of state to perform quality control inspections at vehicle manufacturing facilities. In the Training School, will be assigned as a Maintenance Instructor, responsible for delivering maintenance concepts and "hands-on" training to hourly and supervisory personnel. In the Maintenance's Customer Service Unit, will be involved with investigating and implementing ways to improve fleet reliability. Develop testing procedures and campaigns that follow maintenance directives and standard practices. In the Vendor Inspection unit, will be required to visit vendor's manufacturing plants to inspect, test and approve shipments of newly designed/built buses.

Education and Experience

  1. Six (6) years of related experience, including a minimum of two (2) years of managerial/ supervisory/ project management experience.

    Desired Skills

  • Strong knowledge of vehicular maintenance operations and preventative maintenance procedures

  • Mechanical experience (i.e., repairing passenger automobiles, trucks, buses, aircraft, heavy equipment)

  • Knowledge of DOB / MTA Bus Procedures

  • Experience in personnel development, work prioritization, and overtime distribution

  • Must be able to make decisions rapidly and under pressure and effectively deal with availability of labor and equipment constraints

  • Working knowledge of Spear/UTS application related to Depot/Central Maintenance Facility operations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • PC skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Knowledge of heavy-duty revenue vehicles, new bus technologies, and the maintenance procedures/standards required to maintain them, including an understanding of specifications

  • Knowledge of vehicle systems and components

  • Knowledge of design, manufacturing processes, product testing and maintenance procedures

  • Ability to design testing systems and procedures based on engineering specifications
